Have you lost some or all of your natural teeth? Has it become difficult to speak and chew properly? For patients who wish to replace their missing teeth and restore their smile, Dr. Joseph C. Styger may recommend dentures in San Francisco, California. Our dentist provides complete dentures, which are used when all the teeth are missing; partial dentures, for patients who still have some of their natural teeth; and denture relines.

Complete dentures are either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are made and placed after any remaining teeth are removed and your gums have had about eight to twelve weeks to heal. On the other hand, immediate dentures are made before the remaining teeth are removed, so they can be placed as soon as the teeth are removed. The patient does not have to go without teeth while their gums heal, but this type of denture requires more adjustments than conventional dentures. This is because the bones and gums shrink during the healing period.

A removable partial denture is replacement teeth connected to a gum-colored base. A metal framework is used to hold the denture in place in your smile. A fixed denture is made of a crown for the tooth on each side of the gap with replacement teeth in between. This denture is cemented into place.
